About The Event

Part 1 is lecture & discussion of the responsibilites of providing transgender-affirming care & teach the interpersonal skills needed to be respectful.

Part 2  will identify unique health issues of transgender clients & explore techniques that support them in making medical & non-medical transitions from their gender assigned at birth to true gender identity. Please reach out to frances@francesreed.com for permission to register for part 2 only.

Bodywork to Support Chest Binding Clients is designed to teach MT's a basic understanding of chest binding, impact on musculoskeletal system, proper intake with client experiencing binding pain. draping & techniques to mitigate chronic pain from binding. This course includes a community clinic in which clients who bind will receive free massage & give students opportunity for real world practice. This training is a valuable skillset for therapists wanting to serve transgener, non-binary & gender non-conforming clients. Brief explanation of fascial system & throacic anatomy will be given but participants should have basic proficiency in anatomy & prior exposure to the fascial system. 

Frances Reed, LMT (they/them). Practicing since 2011, uses a structural integration framework to support people at all stages of gender transition. Frances has developed a set of techniques assessing & treating chronic pain & discomfort in people who chest bind, as well as protocols for pre and post top-surgery. Frances teaches practitioners cultural competency skills needed to provide affirming care to transgender clients. Frances is in privat practice doing transition related bodywork in Washington D.C.
