Manual lymph drainage for the intact lymphatic system is a course designed for massage therapists to have a thorough understanding of the anatomy of the lymphatic system, how the lymphatic system functions, and how we as therapists can assist the lymphatic flow. We will discuss when MLD is appropriate for a client and how we can incorporate MLD into our practice. A few examples would be :

• a pre or post operative client, an example of this would be a knee replacement where there is a tendency for prolonged inflammation from the surgery. By performing MLD prior to massage therapy the therapist can open the lymphatic pathways prior to massage treatment to reduce tightness of the inflamed interstitial area which enables the therapist to address surrounding muscles with less discomfort to the client during treatment.
