CANCELLED, Deepening Your Practice: Reiki Second Degree (Okuden) with Timothy Kocher-Hillmer

"Deepening your Practice” is designed for students previously initiated to Reiki First Degree as well as for those who may already be Second or Third practitioners. Over recent years more data has become available regarding the history and application of Reiki, which is important groundwork for those desiring to be Reiki practitioners. Even practitioners who have been using Reiki with clients for some time can have vague ideas of what Reiki is and are therefore unsure of how to communicate the benefits and effects of this energy-based modality. Reiki’s history can be elusive, especially when combined with other modalities, and the traditional Reiki teachings can be overshadowed or forgotten. The intent of this course is to (re-)introduce Reiki to the practicing massage therapist as a powerful healing modality and a philosophical system that is both simple and accessible. In this workshop students will return to the “roots” of Reiki in order to deepen their experience and understanding, thus enhancing their ability to use this modality with clients. This class will address questions of “authenticity” of Reiki practices and review concepts that are necessary for a clear and simple application of this energy- based healing. Additionally, students will learn and have ample opportunity to practice previously unknown Reiki techniques of Dr. Mikao Usui. Our 3-session workshop begins with community building, setting of intentions, reconnecting with the Reiki Precepts and sharing of Reiki with one another. Together we will review Reiki’s history, followed by initiation to Reiki in the Usui tradition. Students learn the concept of “Distance Reiki,” discuss the variety of schools of Reiki, and the significance of the symbols of Level 2. Through the course additional tools for sensing and clearing the more subtle levels of energy will be introduced and practiced. Ultimately, we will focus on applying concepts directly with clients, from a distance, and larger group settings. As a prerequisite, all attendees are asked to schedule an interview with the instructor and to confirm completion of 12-24 hours of Reiki practice of individual treatments. Attendees should bring a massage table, a sheet, a blanket, note taking material, a personal item that represents connection, and wear comfortable clothing.
