About The Event
While you may get more from this class if you have attended an Alexander Technique Intro class, it is not required or necessary to have previous AT experience. It is required to be a massage therapist. Learn or review the basic principles of Alexander Technique as they apply to giving a massage. LMTs often work harder than they need to physically in the name of giving a good massage. In this class your will explore how to unwork physcially while thinking more clearly and dynamically about how you are moving and using your own self as you connect with your clients. Different modalities require different uses of the therapist's body. Swedish, Neuromuscular and Myofascial massage are some of the primary modalities that therapists can find taxing, but this class is not limited to those modalities. If you specialize in something else, bring whatever tools you need to do a typical sesssion, whether it is a floor mat, cups or stones. If you are comfortable with it, you will receive gentle hands-on work and verbal guidance. If you prefer verbal coaching only that is entirely possible.
Massage tables are provided by the school. Please bring sheets, cream and any other tools uou usually use while giving a massage.
Jenny Briggs has been a massage therapist since 1998. She studied privately with her AT teacher and then completed the three-year training course to become a certified Alexander Technique instructor herself in 2007.
