About The Event

While you may get more from this class if you have attended an Alexander intro class, it is not required or necessary to have previous AT experience. It is required to be a massage therapist. Learn or review the basic principles of the Alexander Technique as they apply to giving a massage. LMTs often work harder than they need to physically in the name of giving a good massage. In this class you will explore how to unwork physically while thinking more clearly and dynamically about how you are moving and using your own self as you connect with your clients. Different modalities require different uses of the therapist’s body. Swedish, Neuromuscular therapy, and Myofascial massage are some of the primary modalities that therapists can find taxing, but this class is not limited to those modalities. If you specialize in something else, bring whatever tools you need to do a typical session, whether it is a floor mat, cups, or stones. If you are comfortable with it, you will receive gentle hands-on work and verbal guidance. If you prefer verbal coaching only that is entirely possible.

Please bring a table, sheets, cream/oil/lotion, and and any other tools you usually use while giving a massage.

Presenter: Jenny Briggs has been a massage therapist since 1998. After five years in the field, she thought she would have to give up her career due to pain in her wrists and hands. After taking one continuing education class on the Alexander Technique, she was on the way to saving her career. She studied privately with her AT teacher and then completed a three-year training course to become an Alexander Technique instructor herself, becoming certified in 2007.
