About The Event
Many people have heard of the Alexander Technique and assume that it has something to do with posture. Yes and no. Better posture is often a bonus side effect. It is really about regaining your innate poise, ease, grace, and power as you go about your life. This is especially helpful if you are a massage therapist, but it can be used to help anyone do anything more effectively. In the introductory class you will learn about F.M. Alexander and the basic components of his technique. You will spend time awakening your kinesthetic sense and exploring activities in which you wish you were more comfortable. You will learn about undoing the habits that no longer serve you so that your innate coordination can come to the forefront of your experience. This class often involves, but is not limited to,the massage table and how you work with clients. Each class is tailored to what the you most want to learn and where you most want help. If you are comfortable with it, you will receive gentle hands-on work and verbal guidance. If you prefer verbal coaching onlythat is entirely possible.
Please bring massage tables and sheets. Presenter: Jenny Briggs has been a massage therapist since 1998. After five years in the field, she thought she would have to give up her career due to pain in her wrists and hands. After taking one continuing education class on the Alexander Technique, she was on the way to saving her career. She studied privately with her AT teacher and then completed a three-year training course to become an Alexander Technique instructor herself, becoming certified in 2007.
